IUP Alumni Relations and the Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) are taking IUP students to network with IUP alumni from 5:30 to 8 p.m. April 19 at the Rivers Club in Pittsburgh.
The CPDC will provide bus transportation, and students must reserve their seats with a $20 deposit in Pratt Hall Room 302.
The IUP Alumni Association will serve appetizers while students and alumni discuss careers and relationship-building.
“In the real world, it is not about what you know, but who you know,” said Zachary Saeva, CPDC assistant director. “This event will help students build these connections by having informational interviews with the alumni without making the students feel intimidated by them.”
IUP Alumni Relations worked out the logistics and setup of the event, but the CPDC helped with marketing. These two organizations meet once a month to discuss opportunities to connect students and alumni.
The CPDC offers help for students who are interested in making themselves more marketable for internships or jobs. Students can have their resumes and cover letters edited, practice interviewing, search for jobs and discuss other career-related topics.
IUP Alumni Relations provides a conduit to keep alumni connected to their alma mater by hosting reunions, job fairs and other activities.
The organizations work together to create events for students and alumni to meet with each other and discuss employment and internship opportunities.
Several notable alumni will be attending the event, including Dave Mawhinney, who was recently appointed as executive director of Swartz Center Entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University.
Registration ends Friday, and students must register through Alumni Services. For more information about this and other events, contact the CPDC at 724-357-2235.
