For more than 16 years, Joe Pascuzzo and Matt Taladay, a.k.a. the Lounge Lizards, have been entertaining crowds in Punxsutawney with their lively acoustic renditions of classic rock ’n’ roll and blues hits, frequenting Midway Inn.
After having spent most of their lives in and out of various bands, the duo decided to join forces in 2001 after playing together in Pascuzzo’s basement one night and really hitting it off. Taladay and Pascuzzo had known each other for years as neighbors, and Taladay also just happens to be Pascuzzo’s attorney, which certainly makes for an interesting backstory.
The two decided to take a more acoustic approach to their music, and after going out and doing some informal entertaining together, they decided to officially form the Lounge Lizards.
Both members of the band play the guitar, and Pascuzzo serves as the lead vocalist.
“We do a lot of old rock ’n’ roll and some blues,” Pascuzzo said.
The Lounge Lizards perform together on and off throughout the year, focusing mostly on playing in venues that are within a one-hour drive of Punxsutawney.
“We don’t play regularly anywhere – just anywhere we can get into,” Pascuzzo said.
One reason for the rather sporadic performance schedule of the band is because Pascuzzo is retired and Taladay still serves as a practicing attorney in the region, which limits the group to performing mostly on weekends.
The band mostly performs acoustic covers of the Beatles, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn. If you are interested in checking out the musical stylings of the Lounge Lizards, their next performance will be July 1 at the Laurel Mountain Winery.
