For the second time in the 2013- 14 season, freshman men’s basketball guard Cornell “Manny” Yarde (freshman, computer sciences) received the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Freshman of the Week award.
Yarde, who has shot nearly 60 percent from the floor over the past five games, received the award coming off of a game in which he scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds, including two offensively, in a 77-61 win over PSAC West foe Seton Hill University Saturday night.
Yarde is a key player off the bench for the Crimson Hawks, averaging 4.5 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game.
In the past two games, Yarde has scored a combined 21 points, including a career-high 11 against Clarion University. He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists in just over 19 minutes against the Golden Eagles.
His previous best games came back in the fall semester on Nov. 23 and Dec.1 when he scored six points against both Clarion and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Both games turned out to be Crimson Hawks wins, which shows the production he has given off the bench.
Yarde and the Crimson Hawks travel to California University of Pennsylvania, Wednesday, looking to best the Vulcans, who beat the Crimson Hawks at home Jan. 18.
